My handmade Skyrim "helmet" beanie

Between Skyrim sessions (while my hubby was playing), I was inspired to design a “helmet” like the Iron Helmet in the video game. Here’s what I came up with! My very own Skyrim-inspired beanie, made with my own little hands. What do you think?

I posted a couple of photos on my Facebook page, and some people asked about buying the Skyrim hat. So I’ve put a listing in my Etsy shop (Skyrim inspired “Iron Helmet” with horns) if anybody’s interested.

ICO Sackboy by Nikki at Pig Corner

Every now and then, I see something that makes me smile. This combination of crochet (one of my favorite crafts) and video games (another favorite activity) puts a smile not only on my face, but in my geek heart of hearts.

This adorable handmade “sackboy” is the creation of Nikki, a nursing student, video game player, superhero lover and geek crafter. This doll is Nikki’s “Ico Sackboy,” inspired by the game Ico. Isn’t he cute?! Check out the detail on the front of his shirt! She has also made dolls inspired by the popular video games such as Little Big Planet, Assassin’s Creed and God of War.

If you’re wondering where you can buy one of Nikki’s dolls for yourself, you’re out of luck. She’s a busy student, and they are not for sale. However, she has very generously created patterns, video tutorials, and materials lists, so you can learn how to make your own.

In other news, here’s a link I found a while back (October, 2008), but never got around to sharing. It’s a Dream Captcha, by Jeffrey Augustine Songco, and I think it’s brilliant!

Not only does it look awesome, but the artist put some real thought into the design and materials he used. For example, if you look closely, you’ll see the feathery dangles are made from web-ish grid-like tulle. Web, Internet, get it? The artist explains the meaning of the Dream Captcha like this:

The original idea of a dreamcatcher is an object to protect sleeping children from nightmares. And you can argue that one use of Captcha is to protect a website’s identity. Therefore, a main expression of the work is obviously protection.

Jeff did make a limited run of 23 Dream Captcha pieces, but I’ll bet they were all purchased pretty quickly. [Edited a couple hours later: I just got an e-mail from Jeff and he still has some Captchas left for $100 each! Yaay!] If you’re interested in his work, check out his portfolio. Cheers!

These tech-chic pendants are called “Silicon Gallies,” and they’re the brilliant creation of Capitola Girl. She takes used computer keys and turns them into clever jewelry, featuring initials or special key combinations.

I love this CTRL-Z (undo) pendant. The only thing that would make it better would be “Apple-Z.”

I love my MacBook, but its clean, sleek white case was lacking a bit of personality. Sure, I could get a fancy vinyl skin or some flashy decals for it, but I was struck with a sudden, simple, crafty impulse. Here is the result of that inspiration. I love it! Now, it needs a name. What do you think?

Here’s a gift I made for a girlfriend, but I ended up making her something else, so this bracelet is in need of a home. I’ve posted it over at PoshTidbits, if you’d like to see the details. I call it a “Luscious Lime Glass Bead Bracelet,” because it reminds me of sparkling lime punch with ice cubes. $20+shipping. Cheers!

This makes my crafty geek heart go pitter patter! Have you ever seen a cuter Indiana Jones? This little yarn Indy was handmade by the folks at Geek Central Station. Check out the hat! And the whip! I don’t know what else to say, except that I want one!
