There’s a Cylon on my toast!

by GeekMom on July 18, 2008

No Way! I just found out that NBC-Universal has a limited-edition line of uber-geeky merchandise out for Comic-Con 2008 in San Diego! Turns out I discovered this happy information a little bit too late to bring home this awesome toaster, though. It's already sold out from the online store, and I'm not going to San Diego just to buy a toaster -- even one this beautiful! It's a Battlestar Galactica toaster, and it toasts the image of a Cylon right onto your slice! This gets me ridiculously giddy inside! In case you're not familiar with Battlestar Galactica, Cylons are sometimes referred to as "Toasters." So this is a "Toaster" toaster! It's so perfect. What would be the perfect spread for a Cylon-branded piece of toast? Gaius Baltar-malade? ;-)

This BSG cake cures my case of the Mondays

by GeekMom on May 12, 2008

battlestar galactica cakeI caught up on Battlestar Galactica over the weekend, and I am loving it! Some very exciting things are happening, but still no revelation on the identity of the final Cylon. I can hardly wait to see what happens next! In the meantime, I'm dealing with the post-Mother's Day housework, which is what happens when Mom takes the weekend "off." Hubby and the kids made me relax, and they treated me like a queen, which was really wonderful! But, it makes for a very messy Monday... If you're a fellow BSG fan in need of a Monday pick-me-up, take a look at this fabulous cake! Those ships and explosions are edible! And if you look closely (click to view larger photo), you can see little sparkly silver dragees stuck to the chocolate buttercream, and they look like stars in space. This masterpiece is from Whipped Bakeshop, and here is the creator's description:
This cake was created for a Battlestar Galactica party held at Independents Hall in Philadelphia. Chocolate devil's food cake with raspberry jam and ganache filling, iced with chocolate buttercream and ganache, decorated with chocolate ships and explosions, silver dragees, silver and gold space dust. 100% edible!
Doesn't that look and sound delicious? Chocolate buttercream and ganache? Edible gold space dust?! So say we all! Happy Monday, everybody! Photo © Whipped Bakeshop, shown here by permission.

Battlestar Galactica + LEGO = Awesome!

by GeekMom on April 5, 2008

In honor of the return of Battlestar Galactica, I dug up this brilliant example of brick work on Brickshelf. This LEGO model of a Colonial Viper Mark VII was built by "Captain-Nakota" (Scott). He did it from scratch, because there are no LEGO kits for the BSG vehicles. Please click on the thumbnail, so you can appreciate the details in the larger photo. Besides the fabulous work on the Viper itself, I love the details of the scene around the ship. Look closely at the little figures. You can see Apollo climbing into his cockpit, and Chief, in his orange jumpsuit, telling him something important about his Viper. Starbuck (short blonde hair) is waiting on deck in her black flight suit, and you can also see Admiral Adama and Colonel Tigh standing by. You might even recognize Cally's ponytail in the background. The preparation and effort that went into building this scene mark Scott as a true BSG Geek in my book, and I hope he appreciates that for the high compliment it's meant to be. To see more of his BSG models, including a Cylon Raider, visit his Brickshelf gallery.
