You know you’re a Geek Parent if…

Here’s a quick list I put together while I was thinking about my own family’s techie-tech lifestyle. In no particular order, and subject to revision… Hope this gives you a grin.

  1. You refer to your baby’s due date as “Labor-CON.”
  2. You catch yourself humming a song and realize it’s from a video game, not the radio.
  3. You speak in Simlish (the language of The Sims), even a little bit.
  4. Your kids incorporate game lingo and “special moves” into their non-electronic backyard playtime. (LARP much?)
  5. Any of your gadgets have been named (our portable GPS is “Wanda”).

Have something to add to the list? Go for it! :-) Cheers!

When you find yourself sitting on the couch mentally clicking on clutter and dragging it to the wastebasket.

When the landline rings and you reach for your cell phone first.

When your mental checklist for leaving the house includes more than one cable.

    I’ve done 2 and 3.

  • How the heck do you speak in simlish? It’s hard enough understanding it, sounds like “blah blah, ooh, ahhh, blahhhh? ah, oh, ci, ja”. Sounds like a mix of Japanese and German.

my neighbor stopped by with her 5 month old baby. He was wearing a cute baby cap with an eensy little pocket on it. My son told my neighbor that it was the perfect place to keep a flash drive.

    2, 3 and 5.
My favourite bit of Simlish was from the original game – the Sims used to say ‘Dis grau is frenshay’ whenever they were pleased or excited. I used t use that occasionally with another Sim-playing friend; even though we haven’t played in ages, we still talk about our ‘social’ (in particular) being in the green or red.

    You guys are awesome!

Catherine, I love that “frenshay” line! I haven’t played in a while, but I love it when a Sim says that about dinner, usually followed by a belch. Funny!
