I don’t really know how I ended up at this blog, but once I read the story that goes with it, I thought I’d pass it along. It’s called Silent Auction for Carol. Here is the description from the site:
Carol Decker, my wife, had an emergency cesarean section on June 10, 2008. After the surgery she developed life-threatening hypotension from a septic pneumonia infection. After fighting for several weeks, the medicine she was on to save her life had the unfortunate side effect of blocking blood flow to her legs, left arm and eyes.
Since then, Carol has had both legs below the knee amputated, her left arm amputated and she is blind. Carol was transferred to Harborview after an extended stay in ICU at Swedish Hospital, which insurance has covered to an extent and the rest we have had to pay for out of pocket. Carol will now begin inpatient rehab, which her insurance will not cover, and is estimated to cost somewhere around $80,000.
The site hosts an ongoing auction of donated items, such as jewelry and handmade blankets, etc. 100% of the profit goes directly to Carol. If you’re a parent, or feeling particularly compassionate, you might want to visit the site and check out the auction items. If you don’t want to bid on the active item, you can just donate money. Or if you’re crafty, maybe you’d like to donate an item for the auction. I’m going to look into that.

That is so sad! I have a friend who also has ulcerative colitis and her Dr. has warned her not to get pregnant, I guess this is why. Thanks for the link.

Oh my gosh!
My wife and I just had a baby 17 months ago, and it was a cesarean delivery as well. And both the momma and the baby are as healthy as can be.
We take so much for granted. We are extremely thankful!

Oh wow, I cannot even imagine what the family is going through. Thanks for sharing and I will be sure to head over and support them.
What a heartbreaking story. I’ll definitely either buy something or donate an item or two. I can’t imagine what this mom and family is going through.
