Best coffee table ever!

by GeekMom on August 22, 2008

This is awesome! Twenty-year old Australian Kyle Downes built this retro-style Nintendo controller from scratch. He scanned his old controller, enlarged the image, printed it out on big paper, took measurements, made calculations, built it, wired it, and VOILA! It’s actually playable!

He describes how he did it on his blog (ultra-awesome.blogspot.com), so you can make your own if you want to. Oh, and it’s also practical, because the whole thing opens up like a trunk, and you can store your old game cartridges inside. Amazing.

Wow! Want one of those.

I’ve still got an old NES top-loader around here, too.

A lot of new inventions make me scratch my head in bewilderment. Kyle’s coffee table, however, is the first practical invention that I have seen in a long time. Way to go!

VERY cool! Would look great in my kids’ game room. (Their colors are black, red and chrome.)

Hmmm.. I bet I could do that.

How come I have an urge to go out and buy some MDF this bank holiday now. Fantastic idea and would still have been awesome if it hadn’t been fully functional.

Oh my god that is so cool. I would love one of those. I just was playing my nintendo the other night and had so much fun. I can’t wait to show my husband , maybe he will make one for me :)

At first I was thinking, “How would a 20-year-old even know what a classic NES controller looked like? Wouldn’t SNES have been more his speed?” And then I got to “fully-functional” and forgot all my nitpicking. That is like awesomeness squared!

That looks so cool. Makes me want to get my old NES out of the attic.

Okay, I think I want one of these now. At least for our gaming room (frightening yes, but we have one in the basement.) That is really cool. Thanks for sharing.
