Tom Griswold’s advice to high school grads

Tom Griswold is the “Tom” of Indianapolis-based morning radio show, “Bob & Tom.” According to yesterday’s Indianapolis Star, Tom recently spoke at his son’s high school graduation. How cool would that be, to have someone so entertaining as your commencement speaker?!

It turns out he delivered some good advice to the Park Tudor (an expensive private school in Indianapolis) graduates, some of which was printed in yesterday’s paper. I’m sharing it here, because it’s a welcome change from the news we’ve had about the flooding disasters lately.

Here’s some of Tom’s witty wisdom:

Follow your dream … but surround yourself with family and friends who will tell you when it’s time to go to Plan B.

There’s too much of everything everywhere. Give yourself some time to think.

Learn to say “I don’t know.”

Be skeptical; question everything, especially if you find it on the Internet.

Learn how to keep a secret.

Learn about credit. Credit cards can ruin your life.

Realize nothing good ever starts with “Dude, I dare you to…”

Don’t pierce anything.

Be polite.

Whatever setbacks you may encounter, there is no problem so great that it can’t be solved by moving back into your parents’ basement.
