My kids love flexible bendy straws, and I brought home a package from Bed Bath & Beyond a couple of days ago. After I opened the package, I happened to read the “Use and Care Instructions” on the back, and this is what I saw…

In case that’s too small for you to read, here is what it says.
Perfect for rootbeer floats, sodas, cocktails and more. Three fun colors. Handwash before use. (emphasis added)
You’ve got to be kidding me! Who has the time or inclination to wash a bunch of plastic straws before use?! Sorry, but the most I can manage is a quick rinse with tap water. What am I supposed to do? Get out the pipe cleaners to scrub the skinny tubes?
I guess I’ll be looking for Made in USA bendy straws from now on, and these will go into the craft bin.
WELCOME! I can't teach you how to monetize your blog, but I can offer you some mostly intelligent conversation, moderately geeky tech talk, very funny mom stories, with the occasional rant thrown in for sanity. I'm so glad you're here!

hahahah!! wowzers!
From a legal standpoint, they probably don’t want to get sued if there is plastic dust or particles that could be harmful if consumed (because there are LARGE quantities on there, right?)
This label needs to be added to that email forward that goes around… Stupid Labels
lol thanks for sharing!

All I ever do with straws is try to flush some hot soapy water through them. I use a bulb syringe, however after the first use, its just a hot water rinse.

Found you on TopMomma! I had no idea. I just checked my straws and they say the same thing. I never, ever washed ‘em. UGH!

Probably don’t need to wash them if you’re using them for cocktails. At least the way I make cocktails.

Who in their right mind would think of that? I cannot imagine what mother would think to wash a STRAW! Good gravy.

Oh no! That’s just ridiculous. If you wanted to bother washing them you would probably not use disposable ones! Honestly. I think either they were sued already or they have lots of dust etc flying around where the straws are packaged. I’d throw them away and get a new package.

I’m going to go home and buy a bag of these and hand wash each one. That way when I take 4 minutes to use it and throw it away I can call myself an a__ .. lol

Lol. I thought the problem was going to be the mention of cocktails in a product designed for kids.
